“In 2023, we launched our Culture Manifesto, a vision that was as aspirational as it was foundational to who we are at Bright People. Being certified was part of the ongoing journey to bring our Culture Manifesto to life.”

Company size
Micro, under 30 employees, based in Brisbane
Segment
Professional services. A purpose-led People Advisory firm working with capital-intensive and high-reliability sectors
Recognition
Great Place To Work® Certified™, and named on the Best Workplaces™ in Australia List in both 2026 and 2025
Bright People employs fewer than 30 people. Every one of them is covered by company-funded trauma insurance paying $150,000 pre-tax, and total and permanent disability cover worth three times salary.
Benefits at that level are a balance-sheet decision at any size. At Micro scale they are a conspicuous one, because nobody expects them and the premiums come out of a small revenue base. Bright People is a Brisbane People Advisory firm of HR practitioners, consultants, facilitators and coaches, working with organisations in capital-intensive and high-reliability sectors. Its product is advice about how to treat people well, which makes what it offers its own team a fair question to put to it.
On its Trust Index™ Survey, 100% of employees said Bright People is a great place to work, against 60% at a typical Australian company. The firm has been named on the Best Workplaces in Australia List two years running.

What a Firm This Size Put on the Table
The insurance is the headline. Bright People funds trauma cover paying $150,000 pre-tax in the event of a claim, and total and permanent disability cover worth three times an employee’s salary. Cover at that level is standard in large corporates with a group scheme and an actuary. In a firm of this size it represents a decision somebody had to argue for and sign off.

The Me Day sits at the other end of the scale and costs almost nothing. Every employee takes one every six months, on top of planned annual leave, to put their own wellbeing first. Two a year is modest. The design detail worth copying is that the day is granted in advance and framed as proactive, so an employee takes it while they are still coping.
Around those sit a public holiday substitution arrangement, participation in the charity and fundraising work the company invests in, and a well-stocked kitchen.

The Manifesto Came First
Bright People launched a Culture Manifesto in 2023, and Monique Purcell describes Certification as part of bringing it to life. Until then the firm had no measurement at all. Its read on its own culture came from organic conversations with employees and from the manifesto itself, which is a document describing intent.
The first survey turned that intent into evidence.
“We received very strong results from the outset, so more than anything, it set the tone for what we wanted to sustain. It validated what we felt to be true about our culture and set a high bar for ourselves moving forward.”
Results went to the senior leadership team first and then to the wider firm. With scores of 100% or 99% across nearly every area, the conversation that followed was about holding the line. Unanimous agreement showed up on management being approachable, on pride in what the team accomplishes, on having the resources and equipment to do the job, and on managers avoiding favouritism.
Bright People uses the Certification on LinkedIn and in customer proposals, which for a People Advisory firm does double duty: it speaks to candidates and to buyers at the same time. The firm names AI integration as its live challenge for the period ahead.
Where Culture Work Starts
A firm that advises other organisations on their people carries a particular exposure, because every recommendation it makes invites the same question back. Bright People answered it by measuring itself and publishing the number. The trauma cover is the part worth sitting with, though. Plenty of small employers write a values statement. Very few of them put $150,000 behind it for a team of under 30, and a benefit like that says something a manifesto cannot.
